1. Light: Satin Pothos does best in bright, indirect light. It tolerates lower light, though growth slows and the silver markings may be less pronounced. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can burn its velvety leaves.
2. Potting and Drainage: Plant it in a well-draining potting mix in a pot with drainage holes to avoid root rot. Hanging baskets and cylinder pots both work well, as long as excess water can escape freely.
3. Placement: Vines typically grow about 4 feet long indoors, with a spread of 2 to 3 feet, and can get longer with support over time. Let it trail from a hanging basket or shelf, or train it up a small trellis, away from cold drafts.

1. Watering: Water when the top inch or two of soil has dried out. The thick leaves hold moisture, and curling leaves are a helpful sign that it is thirsty. Avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot, and reduce watering in winter.
2. Humidity: Satin Pothos grows well in average household humidity but appreciates a little extra. Higher humidity helps new leaves unfurl smoothly and prevents crispy edges. A pebble tray or humidifier is helpful during dry winter months, especially with forced-air heating.
3. Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength about once a month during spring and summer. Skip feeding in fall and winter when growth naturally slows and the plant rests.
4. Pest Monitoring: Check the leaf undersides and stems occasionally for mealybugs, spider mites, and scale. Gently wiping the velvety leaves with a soft, damp cloth removes dust and pests. Treat stubborn infestations with insecticidal soap.

Maintenance and Long-Term Care

1. Repotting: Repot in spring when roots fill the pot or grow out of the drainage holes, moving up just one pot size. Satin Pothos is a moderate grower, so it does not need frequent repotting.
2. Pruning and Cleaning Leaves: Trim long or bare vines just above a node to encourage fuller growth, and remove any yellowed leaves. Keep the velvety leaves dust-free with a soft brush or damp cloth so they can soak up light.
3. Propagation: Cut a vine just below a node, with at least one leaf attached. Root it in water or moist potting mix, and roots typically form in a few weeks. Plant multiple cuttings together for a fuller pot.

1. Pet Safety: Satin Pothos is toxic to cats and dogs. Like other Scindapsus plants, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and vomiting if chewed. Hang it out of reach or place it on a high shelf in homes with pets.
2. Curling Leaves: Curling leaves most often mean the plant is thirsty. Give it a thorough drink and the leaves usually flatten within a day. If the soil is already moist, curling may be caused by too much direct sun or very low humidity.
3. Yellow or Mushy Growth: Yellow leaves and mushy stems usually point to soil that stays wet too long. Let the top inch or two dry before watering again and make sure the pot drains well.
4. Not a True Pothos: Despite its name, Satin Pothos is Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus', a close relative of Epipremnum pothos with a similar trailing and climbing habit, so it shares the same easy care routine as its cousins.
